The Horned Helmet Skull is a crystal skull carved from the shell of a Cassius cornuta sea snail, blending the skull into the natural characteristics of the shell to create an admirable overall effect. Through the nose and eye sockets one can view the deep interior living chamber of the snail, naturally finished to a smooth and high polish. The Horned Helmet Skull is an inspired expression of man joined with nature to become one, representing the feasibility that the two can find a comfortable harmony in a symbiotic relationship. The Horned Helmet Skull is presented to encourage us to move forward together with nature in our growth process; to reclaim our rightful roles as the guardians of the Earth.
Cassius cornuta, commonly referred to as the horned helmet, is one of the largest species of sea snails. A member of the gastropod class and the family Cassidae, these sizable snails commonly inhabit the sand and coral rubble zones surrounding coral reefs, usually in temperate to tropical waters at a depth range of 5 to about 40 meters. Typically they burrow into the substrate leaving only a few horns, or whorls, and the top back portion of the shell noticeable.
Cassius cornuta, and most of the family Cassidae, typically feed on substrate dwelling sea urchins, but also feed on other echinoderms including benthic urchins, (living on the sea floor,) and starfish. Rather than consuming the urchin entirely, or drilling a hole into the test of the urchin, Cassius cornuta is able to consume the animal within its test without breaking the delicate shell. Additionally, Cassius cornuta enjoys a protected status in Queensland, Australia due to its predatory habit toward the coral reef destroying crown-of-thorns starfish.
Several species of helmet snails have been used in the jewelry trade for making cameos as their shells are quite thick and have layers of different colors. Cassius cornuta shells are used to make cameos of white on a rich orange background. Cassius cornuta is also known as the Hawaiian Helmet snail, and is recognizable in many films when the shells are used as blow horns. Cassius cornuta is a desirable shell for collectors and is also hunted for its meat which is usually roasted in the shell over a fire. Cassius cornuta is not an endangered species.
Shells provide a connection to the water element and the moon, and so to the emotions. Shells enhance intuition and sensitivity providing mental clarity and insight to assist with decision making. Shells possess a pliant, easy healing energy that gradually increases in intensity to become quite powerful and effective. This characteristic is effective not only for healing, but also for conveying messages within one's self, between people and in groups, and with the spiritual planes. Shells are wonderful tools for manifestation and transformation. They can provide one with the ability to adapt to changes and increase one's spiritual power to bring happiness, prosperity, and fulfillment, and allow for the expression of one's imagination and creativity. Shells are naturally inclined to provide protection for the home, travelers, small children and pets, from uncooperative attitudes and actions of the self and others, and protection for the emotions. Shells can be used to enhance energies and to assist one in meditation, decision making, and in exploring alternate realms of existence. Shells encourage cooperation and cohesion for groups, for individuals, and for the self.
Shell can be used for skeletal issues, broken bones, proper utilization of calcium and vitamins A and D, and bringing optimal health to the spinal canal, brain, and the blood, lymphatic, immune, and nervous systems.
Having been discovered numerable times throughout recorded history, often by asking very simple and unrelated questions, the Golden Ratio, or Fibonacci Sequence, the consistently repeated pattern of nature growing and evolving, is represented here in this sea shell. This Golden Ratio is considered one of the forms of Sacred Geometry which reflects the universe, its pure forms, and the dynamic relationship we share with nature - the inseparable relationship of the part to the whole. By studying the Sacred Geometry of one thing we find meaning and structural insight into the workings of the inner self and other processes of the universe. Incredibly this spiral growth pattern occurs over and over in the universe around us, from the molecular structure of our DNA, to most plants, including cauliflower, cacti and succulents, daisies and sunflowers, many, many trees, pinecones and pineapples, shells of many invertebrates, and so on all the way out to the astronomical scale of the Milky Way and other distant galaxies! The shell is considered to directly connect one to the Golden Mean Spiral energies to promote personal growth, self-awareness, and the evolutionary consciousness of the Earth and the higher consciousness we all share.
