Skullis has recreated the legendary crystal skull which is held in the highest esteem by crystal skull enthusiasts the world over: the Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull. Approached and challenged by the National Geographic Channel, Skullis accepted, and began the process of doing the impossible: carving an exact replica of this illustrious crystal skull. The National Geographic Channel filmed the entire process of creating these crystal skulls, from start to finish, for their documentary on the subject of crystal skulls.

This very special crystal skull is a replica of the famous Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull carved from a superior quality, clear quartz crystal specimen from Brazil. This particular replica is slightly larger than the original and all dimensions are exactly proportional to the original crystal skull. Like the Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull, this magnificent clear quartz crystal sculpture features a removable lower jaw which perfectly aligns to the skull. Skullis is proud to be able to recreate and offer this amazingly beautiful source of mystery and intrigue. This quartz crystal Mitchell-Hedges Skull of Doom replica sculpture measures 8.5 x 5.5 x 5.9 inches (215x140x150 mm) and weighs 12.83 pounds (5820 g).

One of the most enigmatic and mysterious artifacts of all time, the Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull has been a source of both wonder and controversy since it was first presented to the world, eliciting a range of reactions from the people who have studied it which span from emphatic skepticism to ecstatic visionary and mystical experiences.

As the story goes, the skull was discovered in 1927 by British adventurer and explorer F.A. Mitchell-Hedges and his adopted daughter Anna, in the Mayan ruins at Lubaantun, in what was then British Honduras (present day Belize). Branded as the "Skull of Doom" by F.A. Mitchell-Hedges, it was purported that Mayan priests could will death with the skull, and a series of stories about the 'curse' of the skull unfolded over the next several years.

Soon after, as more and more people came to experience it first hand, the crystal skull began to be associated with potent healing energies, compelling visionary and intuitive experiences, connections to accessing ancient knowledge, and communications with spiritual, transdimensional, and otherworldly entities. Anna Mitchell-Hedges and the present caretaker of the skull, Bill Homann, renamed the crystal skull as the "Skull of Love."

Skeptics continue to remain unconvinced by these anecdotal accounts, but regardless of its caretaker or any 'magical' properties attributed to this artifact, stories of people having strange experiences in the presence of this skull stretch from the time of its discovery up to the present day.

Whether a believer or a skeptic, one must admit that this beautiful object holds a place of primal fascination in the minds of millions. The crystal skull is the ultimate paradoxical symbol of our material impermanence: the human skull, wrought from one of the most spiritual and permanent of materials: quartz crystal.

It has been speculated that the skull was carved by the Ancient Mayans, by Atlanteans, or even extra-terrestrial beings. If it was in fact carved by man, it is believed to have taken from 150 to 300 years to complete. As one of the Hewlett Packard crystallographers said himself after studying the skull in 1970, "The damn thing shouldn't even be!" Even using today's most sophisticated technology, experts have stated time and time again that this mysterious artifact would be impossible for modern humans to reproduce. Impossible that is, at least, until now.

After untold hours of research, study, and carving, Skullis achieved the impossible! The top artists at Skullis Studios have reproduced the famous Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull to the exact specifications of the original.

The documentarians from the National Geographic Channel provided Skullis with the official size and weight measurements of the Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull as determined by The Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. Striving for perfection, Skullis scoured the internet for every available photograph, video, and written description, and also acquired every DVD available featuring the famous crystal skull, from its original appearance on Arthur C. Clarke's "Mysterious World" to more recent documentaries including the Smithsonian Institute/BBC documentary on the subject of crystal skulls, a SyFy Channel documentary, and videos sold as meditation aides by the crystal skull's present caretaker, Bill Homann.

Proportionally accurate in every detail, Skullis assiduously reproduced the Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull, using both the official measurements taken by Frank Dorland at the Hewlett Packard crystal laboratory, where the Mitchell-Hedges skull was first subjected to rigorous scientific testing in 1970, and the detailed measurements taken by Skullis' team of top artists and designers from the high quality DVD images of various angles of the skull and lower jaw, to ensure the highest degree of accuracy possible in proportionately recreating every feature of the original. Many months and several iterations later, Skullis finally achieved what the experts said could not be done. Skullis successfully and accurately recreated the most enigmatic lapidary masterpiece of all time!

Skullis Studios regularly offers the Mitchell-Hedges replica carved from quality quartz crystal specimens as well as various other materials including rose quartz, pyrite, obsidians, and many others. The Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull replicas from Skullis are made available in all sizes, including smaller versions, crystal skulls that match the size of the original at a 1:1 ratio, and even larger sized sculptures. The majority of the larger carvings are made with the famous removable lower jaw being carved from the same specimen of crystal or mineral as the skull itself.

For decades there was only one, the original crystal skull that began a worldwide movement toward our present fascination and love of crystal skulls. Now, thanks to the amazing abilities of the designers and artists of Skullis, and their experience born from generations of stone carving, it is possible for people around the world to experience this fascinating and timeless works of crystal skull art in their own homes!

Quartz is considered to be a source of Light, and has been named the Perfect Jewel. Referred to by some as the “supreme gift of Mother Earth,” it is considered a master healer. Almost every culture throughout history has believed quartz to be a sacred and magical source of power. Aboriginal tribes of Australia and South America share their creation myth of the cosmic serpent being led and guided by a quartz crystal. Indigenous people of North America and Burma believed quartz crystals to be living entities and ritually offered them gifts of food, some believing the crystal had great power to aid in divining and hunting. Central and South American cultures revered quartz crystals carved into the shapes of human skulls as powerful religious objects where deceased ancestors and gods resided.

Quartz is considered to have been a key element in both the rise and fall of the cultures of Atlantis and Lemuria. It has been used by almost every culture for many purposes, including divination, bringing rain, enhancing magical powers, lighting sacrificial fires, as status symbol of high rank and royalty, and for prevention and treatment of dis-ease.

Even in the modern world quartz continues to occupy integral roles of our everyday lives, including the device you are using now. And it was with a quartz crystal that Sir Isaac Newton discovered the color spectrum of visible light, created as the crystal refracted sunlight shining through it.

Quartz symbolizes sacred fire, purity, and the infinity of space, patience, and perseverance. Quartz instills harmony and purpose. As it does with the technologies it is used in, quartz amplifies energy, accepts programming, and holds memory, making it the most diversely useful stone for healing, meditation, expanding consciousness, spiritual communication, past and future life recall, and any other desired application. Quartz exemplifies the concept of the saying “With God, all things are possible,” in the sense that when one comes from a position of unconditional love and acts according to the highest good of all involved, one can achieve any desired outcome.

Quartz excels at harmonizing and increasing the energies of other stones, and working to fuse the energies of multiple sources into a cohesive focus, making it ideal for wands, staffs, gridding, and the like. Quartz enhances and disperses light energies in all directions, filling an environment with positive energies that remove negativity, protect the aura, and cancel the harmful effects of radiation and radioactivity. Ancient priests used clear quartz to nullify negative energy, dissolve enchantments and spells, and abolish all black magic.

Emotionally quartz enhances the body’s internal structure and surrounding subtle bodies to further connect the physical body with the mind. Quartz replaces any negativity found within with positive thoughts and feelings. Quartz enhances one’s perceptions of the world, increasing consciousness and clear thinking, and gives enhanced energy, dedication, endurance, composure, and patience, bringing the lesson of being loving and finding joy in peaceful coexistence. Clear quartz brings strength and clarity to the mind, boosting concentration and memory while filtering distractions. It is helpful in finding sleep, and helps with the interpretation of messages and lessons experienced in one’s dreams.

Spiritually, quartz crystals are considered to be unique and individual, each with their own personalities and lessons to share. For many people, quartz crystals are the first crystals they find themselves attracted to and in communication with. Many people find quartz crystals to be invaluable tools and companions in their lives. Working with quartz crystals enhances one’s personal growth and consciousness, light, and positive energy during their experiences of thoughts, actions, feelings, and encountered situations. Quartz is considered to connect the physical and spiritual dimensions, intensifying communication with the Divine, and other-worldly masters, teachers, and healers. Quartz is considered a venerated stone in relation to those who have crossed over in death, with many cultures including quartz in funeral rites, and placing it in tombs, urns, and burial sites. Many people consider their personal quartz crystal, sphere, or stones to be intimately connected to them, and consciously direct their essences into the stones for such purposes as storing energies and recording their life experiences, a sort of “Crystal Diary.”

Physically quartz is a master healer and can be used for any condition. It is considered to stimulate the circulatory and immune systems, bringing vitalizing energy and balance to the body. Quartz has also been used specifically to treat bladder and kidney infections and dysfunctions, and digestive disorders. It has been used to treat and remove the pain and effects of burns of the skin, and is generally effective for any skin disorder. Drunk as an elixir, quartz helps to remove toxins in the body. It can be used to overcome vertigo, and to dispel dizziness and improve balance.
