The Vampire’s Crucible features a vampyric skull in a bowl carved from a beautiful sample of carnelian. The only part of this vampire that sparkles is a geode cavity within the skull, lined with drusy carnelian crystals. The exterior of the bowl of this carnelian specimen has been left unfinished in its rough natural state, but the rim of the bowl’s sides have been carved and polished into dark waves of flames that twist about the bowl’s edge. Wreathed in this halo of fire the vampire skull has a powerful mesmerizing effect on the observer, long before one notices the beautiful translucency of the carnelian and the lovely bands of colors. One area of the side of the bowl has been smoothed to a flat surface to allow the bowl to stand for display.
