Knowledge Begat Wisdom plays with the symbolism of the serpent, representing knowledge and wisdom, and the posture of contemplation displayed by the crystal skull. When one has knowledge one does not automatically achieve wisdom as well. Rather wisdom comes through consideration of the various applications of the knowledge in question. Wisdom is also gained by experimentation and by reflecting on what has been experienced. Wisdom does not just happen. It must be sought after before one attains revelation. Knowledge Begat Wisdom is a beautifully carved agate bowl with a skull resting on a skeletal hand and a serpent moving over the crystal skull. Layers and bands of wonderful natural coloring give added dimension and effect to this amazing sculpture. The exterior of the bowl has been left in the rough natural state of the agate stone and the bottom of the sculpture has been carved to a flat surface to allow the bowl to stand vertically for display.

The serpent is a symbol of royalty and power, wisdom, health, wealth, lust, greed, and temptation, primordial life force, duality, and the search for balance. The snake represents the assertive power of masculinity as well as the nurturing, mothering power of creation, this often being depicted as a serpent encircling the earth.
